ShameOnJane Goes to Hollywood!

June 9th, 2012

As I have said before, I will do anything for Jane.  I went to the Hamptons, multiple cocktail parties, dinners and lunches with fabulous important people and flew to Los Angeles.  If that is not sacrifice, I don’t know what is!

My Stepfather is a Movie Producer. For me, this is comparable to a kid who lives above a candy store. His job in the movie business has allowed me to live out my fantasy of becoming a movie star.  I play dress up with the costume designers, have my hair and makeup done and I’ve been an extra in movies such as “Hitch” and “Cop Out”.  Not to mention, hanging out with Ryan Gossling.

My kids work on various movie sets, talking on the walkie talkies, sitting in the director’s chair and watching the video monitor as if they know what they are doing.  My son was even playfully mauled on the red carpet by Russell Brand which ended up all over the newspapers and magazines!(Continued at bottom)

Continued From Top

During the filming of the remake of “Arthur” I even auditioned and got a small role as a reporter.  Not that I ever wanted to be an actual actress, but I wanted to have the experience of “acting” in a movie.  But wait, it gets even better, I even had a trailer and a stand in.  Stand in: the actress that had to stand in position while the director blocked out scenes, because I was really too important to do that.

Under the pretense of having a ton of meetings for SOJ (I had a few), I left my husband and kids and flew from NYC to California to hob nob with the Celebs.  I went to the set and met Emma Stone and Ryan Gossling, my new bffs.  We hung out and I gave Emma a set of RemindeRings that said “Flirt with Costars”, “Turn to your Best Side”, ”Smile for the camera”,  “Suck in Stomach” and “Push Latest Project”.   If anyone spots her wearing them, please write in!  Emma loved the RemindeRings and so did Ryan’s assistant. I also met David Spade, Sean Penn, Troy Garity and Holt McCallany.

I can’t wait to see where Jane takes me next.

Holiday Jewelry Gifts Made Easy: Zip Code Necklaces, Rings & More

November 16th, 2011

I am just getting over the summer ending and it is time to ski. You would think that since every year has the same number of days, that this feeling of being shocked that the next season is quickly approaching would end. I think some of it has to do with advertising.

It used to be that Christmas decorations would not go up till after Thanksgiving. Now it is after Halloween. I already cried over a commercial for a Hallmark Christmas gift. I can’t even imagine how many more times that will happen before Christmas actually comes.

So, forgive me, but since the rest of the country is doing it, I would be remiss if I did not talk about the holidays. First, around this time of year, I have to take a picture of my kids that makes all three look like the most perfect angels. Then I have to put that picture on a holiday card together with a meaningful message that sums up our year as a family and send hopeful wishes for the year coming to everyone we are sending the card to. The cards must then be addressed and stamped to three hundred of our closest friends, neighbors and family. Invariably, 30-40 get returned to sender and then I have to stress about those people being insulted that they did not receive a card. Oh yeah, and they must all be received by Christmas.

Second, I have to buy a ton of gifts. My family exchanges gifts with everyone. There is no grab bag or assignment of names, but a free for all.  An extravaganza of gift giving. I have to find gifts for everyone from Aunt Sally in Idaho (whom I have never met) to my mother who has everything (and doesn’t like spas). I think this gift-giving dilemma might be reason number 326 why I started SOJ. No joke. I think that SOJ has gifts for everyone and at reasonable prices, even teens. Teens are too old for toys and too young for “adult gifts”. This year, at least the teen girls are taken care of. I am giving teen rings and zip code necklaces to all. Even their mothers are taken care of with RemindeRings, nameplate necklaces and word necklaces.

But lastly, and most importantly, even though it is so hard and stressful this time of year, especially for the moms, it is just as fun and magical. Giving a gift to someone that you know they are going to love which makes them laugh is a great feeling. Just going to a ton of parties, receiving gifts you really wanted, looking hot in your red holiday dress, having time off from work, seeing family and friends and knowing that we all made it through another year is wonderful enough.

Kool to be Kind / Jane Gives Back

October 29th, 2011

Kool to be Kind (K2BK) is a pilot program started in Westport, CT by Sarah  Green, Cindy Eigen, Lynne Goldstein and Melissa Shein. Their program trains  high school kids to lead interactive lessons in third grade classrooms aimed to  show that being kind to their peers is the cool thing to do. The  Anti-defamation League honored K2BK at a cocktail party held in October. Two of  the high school students who participate in K2BK are Zoe Greenblatt and Alex Popkin.

Jane Goes to the Hamptons

Well this is my maiden voyage into blogging.  Never thought I would be writing about my jewelry line.  I was actually trained as a trial attorney and practiced for a number of years.  So how, you may ask, did I go from being a lawyer to being Jane?  It was a gradual process that included having kids, giving up trial law (a 24/7 job) and moving from New York City to the suburbs.

Now, I have three sons so you can imagine that without any daughters, I rely heavily on my girlfriends for all things girly.   All these boys, four including my husband, have made me love pink, shopping and accessories in a way I never did before.

Even surrounding myself with as much girliness as I could, I continue to find myself on the edgy side of girly.  I wanted jewelry that reflected my style.  I started to shop around for fun word necklaces.  So many said “Love”, “Peace” and “Hope”, but not one said “Hot Mess” and “Really?”.   How wrong is that?   I won’t go so far as to say that I had a calling, but I do think that I found a hole in the jewelry industry that had to be filled…

I also found jewelry that said “LOL” and “ILU”, What about acronyms that I can relate to?  For example,”FOMO”,  which stands for Fear Of Missing Out.  I for one suffer from this affliction.  I want women everywhere to know that they are not alone.  I have gone to many a party that had no business being at, did not want to go to, all because I was scared that something would happen and I would have missed it.  No one wants to hear the day after a party that you decided not to attend that there was the catfight of the century.  We want a front row seat.

Since I just admitted I suffer from FOMO, I must also admit that sometimes my days are filled with boring, time consuming errands.  Instead of spending money on therapy sessions to cure my occasional bouts of listlessness, I thought it would be fun to create my wish list and wear them on my fingers or as a necklace.  RemindeRings are a wearable fantasy to-do list.  Each ring is engraved with what I wish my list included such as, “Sleep in” and “Make a Reservation”.  Or for women getting married and having babies, “Double the budget” and “Get a babysitter.”

Thanks for reading my first blog entry.  I hope you understand a little more about SOJ.   I wish everyone a happy autumn.   In August, now so long ago, SOJ went to the UJA Trunk show in Bridgehampton.  I posted a picture from the Trunk Show along with an article in the Wall Street Journal that mentions SOJ.  We had so much fun laughing, trying on jewelry and eating candy.   It wasn’t bad being in the Hamptons in August.  I will do anything and go anywhere for SOJ.
